Employees are now entitled by law to 30 Paid Leave Days following President Uhuru Kenyatta Signing of Employment (Amendment) Bill

President Uhuru Kenyatta has today signed into law the Employment (Amendment) Bill of 2019 and Business Laws (Amendment) Bill of 2021.

On March 30th President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law the Employment (Amendment) Bill of 2019 and Business Laws (Amendment) Bill of 2021.

The new Employment (Amendment) Act, 2019 amends the Employment Act of 2007 to, among other provisions, include a one-month pre-adoptive leave with full pay to parents who apply for the adoption of children.

This means Employees who want to adopt Children will now be entitled to 30 paid leaves days.  Employers will now be required by law to add an addition leave type when employees are applying for leave. However, this will be a challenge for those who are yet to automate their processes as this has to reflect on every document filled to apply for the same.

“Our Cloud Software will easily help our clients to define this leave type at a click of a button. Said Peter Muchemi Ceo Crew HR”

Peter also encouraged prospective clients to try the software free trial and experience first-hand how easy and flexible it is to use Crew HR

The signing ceremony at State House, Nairobi was attended by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Majority Leader Amos Kimunya and Clerk Michael Sialai.

Also present were Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua, Solicitor General Ken Ogeto and Treasury PS Dr Julius Muia.
